Luckily we walked up on this guy in a wide open, mowed trail. He was just out warming up in the morning sun, getting ready for a day of laying around waiting on a chipmunk! Don’t freak out around these guys, they don’t want to waste any of their venom on us. And the last thing they want to do is chase someone around the forest.

This guy was blocking THE ENTIRE TRAIL, but that was nothing a few little nudges with the end of my fly rod couldn’t take care of.

Tight lines, and watch your step!

That’s not something you see everyday

Our friends to the east have something new to brag about. Buggs Island Lake, also known as Kerr Reserviour, now has a pending WORLD RECORD blue catfish waiting to be certified. After several years of catching 12 inch trout, I find it hard to believe that someone could land such a beast on 30lb line.

I wonder if you can catch them on fly gear…..hhmm.

I am still here. With other assignments and routine life getting in the way, the camera has been sitting idle when it comes to nature photography. While all this has been going on, the hot summer air has started its clash with the cold air above the Smith River.

It’s time to go get lost in the fog….

But I did have some fun at the local race track…..

Then get out the camera!

Is always seems like something is going wrong on those big, once in a blue moon events. And of course, it almost always has something to do with the weather in the world of nature photography! Case in point, March 19th, the night of the supermoon. The moon was going to appear 14% larger that night due to it’s proximity to earth. BUT…..there were clouds. Oh well, this is all I could muster.

Then there are wildflowers. They are great subjects because you have a good idea when they are going to show up, they are in the same place every year, and they don’t talk back like people do! But there is always the weather to deal with. For the last 3 years, I have tried to get a shot of twinleaf’s at peak bloom(which only last a few days), but it seems they have been blooming on the coldest, rainiest days, until this year.

Finally a bloodroot, just because I enjoy photographing them.
